B1A4/TRANSLATIONS
Shining B1A4 (interview)
How was our five years old? Our words are clearer than just "uh" and "ah", our steps are definitely faster than our small steps. When asked "What do you want to do when you grow old?" they could use all the fingers to count and have dreams with high expectations. B1A4 6th debut anniversary resembles a 6 years old kid who is growing up well. When we asked them about things regarding the music they love, the stage, promotions and their fans, their eyes sparkle like a kid and answered, the shining six years old B1A4.

Q: It is your 6th year anniversary.
JY:
Time flew past. Our debut felt just like yesterday (laughs) however, as the years pile up, we also want to do better.
GC: We are the most thankful to the fans who have been with us for the past 6 years. We are looking forward to the things that will unfold in the future. We wished for the time during fanmeeting and concert to pass by slowly, and the days to just pass quickly. We want to spend more time with the fans.

Q: You guys have been together for more than 6 years. What are some of the things that have changed or have not changed?
SD:
Firstly, my appetite has always been the same. (All laughters)
BR: Members all got more comfortable. We have been together for 9 years since trainee days. They felt like friends but at the same time felt like family.

Q: If you were to illustrate the members as a family member?
SD:
Jinyoung would be a mischievous 5 years old. (All laughters) CNU would be someone younger... about 3 years old? When one was really cute.
GC: Sandeul would be a year 2 middle school kid going through puberty.
SD: Make that year 1 of high school.
BR: I feel like a university student. I have been wanting to travel a lot recently.
JY: Gongchan feels like 50 years old.
BR: Nono, an elementary school kid who likes to play game!
SD: Games and age has no relation. Gongchan feels like a 30 years old uncle.
BR: No, an elementary school kid. He jokes around a lot.
CNU: Let's settle with elementary school kid. Channie looks really cute when he jokes around.
SD: Let's make it 5th grade elementary school class president!

Q: There are members that I am curious about. "Mischievous 5 years old Jinyoung" and "Cutie 3 years old CNU"?
BR: Shinwoo is someone who has very serious thoughts originally. However, he has recently got cuter. He used to get troubled over what kind of coffee to drink but recently he just goes straight "Ice Americano", "Ice Choco"!
JY: I still like Strawberry Yoghurt smoothie.
SD: And that makes you feels like a mischievous 5 years old. You only like to eat things that can't be found anywhere easily. If we don't get it for you, you would throw a tantrum in front of the shop. (laughs)

Q: What would be the colour of B1A4 who has debuted for 6 years?
SD:
B1A4 fills up the album with songs that we make. As the five members live, and as we try to put what we felt into the songs, the sentiments that B1A4 had during then can be found in our music. Wouldn't that be B1A4's colours?
BR: It would be hard to describe it with a word. However, from what I heard from people around us, they would say "B1A4 is good as expressing B1A4".
JY: I feel happy when I hear such words. If you come to know about and say "Ah, this is B1A4", when you listen to a music, I find it a competitive edge. That is our goal. To be a group which can carry our own colour. I am constantly troubled about that.
BR: It is a fun worry. We have fun together and release our stress through music.

Q: The first half of the year was mostly focused on overseas promotions. You guys did a 4 cities tour in USA this February.
BR: Its been a few years since our USA tour. It was always amazing. There were a lot of people who came to watch it this time too.
SD: Usually our USA fans would only sing along to the english lyrics, but this time round, there were local fan boys and they were even singing along to our Korean lyrics. (laugh)

Q: There were such passionate fans (laughs) What do you think would be the reason why fans with different nationality, race and language like B1A4?
JY: We are also curious about that. I think people in Korea likes us because of our relatable image. On the other hand, we wonder if there are other reasons as to why overseas fans likes us even though we are unable to go to them often?
BR: So I asked around (laughs) Someone I know in USA told me that it is because among the many Kpop artists, the energy that we produce when we are together is good.

Q: Usually when we talk about Kpop artists, we tend to think of knife sharp dance moves. On the other hand, B1A4 stages are more towards being emotional and freestyle.
CNU: That's our differentiation.
JY: (Being really serious) But really, if we want to do it, we can.
SD: If it is too sharp, those watching might get cut so we don't do it. (all laughs)
CNU: We prefer songs that we can have fun together, and make such music. I think it matches with the performances too.

Q: Are there any countries B1A4 which to penetrate into?
BR: Whenever we do performances overseas, we will always think that there are more fans hiding in other countries. I feel that even as we work hard and promote in Korea, we will also need to work hard and promote overseas too.
JY: I want to perform in England. Because of a layover, we only managed to watched a performance (laugh)
BR: I want to go Africa. I want to perform on the same land that the animals are running on.
GC: What are you going to do when the lions bite you?
BR: On a vast land outdoor (pretend he didn't hear it)
JY: You just need to on your bluetooth speaker.
SD: Go live at the airport.

Q: You have been putting your own works into your albums. Your 3rd full length album Good Timing was mostly produced by Jinyoung as well as composed and written by Shinwoo.
JY: We originally all like music, (so producing music) its possible.
SD: However, sitting besides Jinyoung makes me think I wouldn't be able to produce music. You can't sleep well, you arrange the songs, does the mixing, mastering...
BR: Especially when we were writing songs for the previous album, I feel very bad for Jinyoung. He was going on varieties and drama, and even preparing the album. When I look at him, I wonder if I would be able to take it.

Q: 2016 was really Jinyoung's year. You had non-stop activities. Mnet Produce 101, God of music, KBS2 Love in the Moonlight, and even B1A4's album.
JY: Even though it was like that, I had a good time. If we received the song from another song writer and only did our own producing, the feeling would be different. Good Timing was an album where we thought about with the members, write songs, and it was also something that we want to show fans after a long time, so it was fun. I wanted to quickly edit the song so that I can let the members and the fans listen to it. Be it mixing or mastering, I feel the best when the members' reactions are good, and I will feel a sense of accomplishment.

Q: Other than Jinyoung, other members were also breaking through in their own areas. CNU musical, Sandeul solo album, Baro and Gongchan dramas.
BR: We always monitor each other through our chatting room on the messenger.
CNU: We will send captures of dramas or upload them on to SNS to promote. Ah, last year when Sandeul and I was doing musical "The Three Musketeers" with double casting for D'Artagnan, Baro came to watch the performance for about three times. Gongchan sat through the whole day to watch two performances. It wasn't something easy and I am thankful.
BR: It was fun even though I watching it three times. Because even though it was the same character, the way Shinwoo hyung and Sandeul portray it is different.

Q: Your loyalty to each other is amazing.
JY: However, they ignore the drama. (Towards CNU & Sandeul) You guys come to the filming set!
BR: That's right. When we are filming for drama, the members will only cheer for us through the phone. On the other hand, Yoo Yeon Seok hyung and Son Hojun hyung came to the filming set to cheer on me...
CNU, SD: We will go! we will go!
JY: Send a coffee truck to the filming site!
SD: I promise (all cheers)

Q: There is something I want to congratulate Gongchan for. Recently he appeared on web variety "존잘러". It is a variety that has amazing visuals of boy group to appear, I have to agree that he is a "face genius" (laughs)
GC:  Vixx Hongbin, Astro Cha Eunwoo also appeared on it. I appeared on the last episode. They said I was "the final round boss". (laughs)
JY: Gongchan is really, looks on top!
SD: Before we debut and I was to come up to Seoul to be a trainee, I had a video call with the members. When I saw Gongchan's face, I thought I had to go to Seoul. He is the most good looking guy I've even seen in my entire life.

Q: Do you also share with your members on the difficulties you faced during your solo activities?
JY: We do such stuffs. When I am working with a director for the first time and the members knows about it, they will ask me how was the filming set atmosphere.
CNU: Recently when Baro was acting in Closed Eyes, he was going through a difficult time as the character.
BR: In Closed Eyes, I am acting as a singer who is pretending to be blind. Before this, I acted as a psycho path murderer in God of noodles. The feeling of the two characters feels the same. I was troubled about how to make the details of the two characters different.
JY: Baro constantly take on difficult roles. As the years goes by, he is acting characters which people can relate to. I think he is doing well.

Q: Even though it is a character in Closed Eyes (the novel), it is different from the web movie.
BR: This is the first time Closed eyes is made with a low budget and releasing as a paid content. When I started with this production, I was hoping that it could go onto the big screens to meet more people rather than staying as a low budget movie. Together with the actors in the movie, I hope that there will lots of opportunities going to look for them. With such a heart, I came to film Closed Eyes.
JY: As much as a short film or a short drama can be really good, but there are a lot of situations whereby they don't get the attention that it deserves. I feel that it is an area where all will need to work hard together for.

Q: When CNU & Sandeul act in a musical, it is also has limited viewers.
CNU: That's right. I keep on feeling about this as I continue to do musicals. Including me, many musical actors, performers and production team worked very hard for the production and I hope that we can get more love from the public. This isn't a one person's problem. I hope our society and public can be become one that embraces many different kinds of culture.

Q: As we look back the 6 years, let's talk about the time when you became strength for one another.
GC: There was one day when I fell really sick. I usually don't tell when I am sick, but on that day I was so sick I had to take a rest from the schedule.I felt really sorry and before the hyungs left, I went to the car and apologised. However, the hyungs all said "It is more important to rest and get well. We will take care of your empty slot." Baro hyung also brought porridge and other stuffs to my house.
BR: However, we weren't able to fill your empty slots.
JY: Channie's face is so shiny we can't fill that. (All laughs)

Q: The first half of 2017 has went by. Give a score for yourself now at mid-way.
GC: 40 points for me. The remaining 60 points will need to be filled up with the remaining 6 months.
BR: I want to give myself 90 points. If I get 10 more points, I should receive a present! (All laughs) (T/N: Saying in a very cute tone)
SD: Mine would be 60 out of 120 points.
JY: Why is there 120 points.
SD: There are 12 months in a year! Even though we weren't able to promote domestically in the first half of the year, but everyone has been working very hard even before we started releasing out 3rd full length album and even right now with overseas promotions and solo activities, we are taking them on without rest.
JY: I would give myself 50 points.
CNU: I would give myself 5 points. I am not satisfied. I will have to work harder (laughs)

Q: So in order to get 100 points (120 points for Sandeul) in 2017, what are some of the things that you wish to do?
SD: I want to have activities so that we can see the fans a lot. Self produced reality, Whenever the members go on a holiday on their own and come back, we will always say "I want to do this together with the members." I think it would be good if we get to do a program where we go to various places and introduce them.
GC: I want to do a variety like B1A4's Youth over flowers. The real us we are together, I want to show about our own story.
CNU: I want to release lots of albums. Like how my heart wants it, I want to release one weekly. (laughs) I want B1A4 to constantly be releasing music and standing on the stage, I think if we were to do that, it would be like a gift to the fans.
JY: I want to release something even if its not a full length album. Project, single, collaboration, all sorts of music activities. Even if we don't go on shows, I want to be able to let them hear more of our music. Our members all have their own charms. I hope that even if its not something of their area, they will still be trying to take it on.

Q: Then recommend something for your member's solo activities.
JY: I think Sandeul will do well acting in a sitcom.
SD: I want to act as an important role.
JY: I hope that Channie can be a character like an internet novel main guy. I hope Baro would broaden himself as an actor.
GC: Not only in acting, but I hope to do more genre in terms of music as well. Jinyoung hyung is good in DJ-ng, and I hope that Sandeul will do trot like how Big Bang Daesung did.
SD: It seems like I am really multi-talented (all laughs)
BR: I hope CNU hyung can release a solo album. Since his dance moves are nice so I hope it is a dance genre.
JY: (laughs) This are all thanks to everyone doing well in their own areas, we have a lot of greed.

ADDITIONAL FROM THE MAGAZINE

#COMMENTARY
Q: When it is B1A4's rest day, Staying at home vs going out
JY: If it is good, I would want to head out but when I am really tired, it is good to stay home. I like staying at home to watch TV.
CNU: I usually stay at home. Actually there isn't a lot of time to rest so I will try my best to rest as much as I can and replenish my energy.
SD: My personality is usually "I like heading out" but nowadays I like staying at home.
BR: Going out. I am an active person so when I stay home I get bored. I like heading out even if it is for a walk on our rest days.
GC: Electronics. I find it fun to stay home and game. I am a stay-home type.

Q: An action from a girl that makes your heart flutter?
JY:
When she is well-mannered. Rather than any other actions, I find girls who are good mannered really cool.
CNU: When she smiles very brightly.
SD: In a cafe, she would not be bother about me and in immersed in her own work, I find it heart fluttering.
BR: Clear supervision and focusing on her own work, that is very attractive.
GC: Smiling when she looks at me. It seems like nothing but such actions makes me heart flutter.

Q: The anxiousness before going up the stage or the satisfaction after the stage, which do you like more?
JY: Satisfaction after a stage. It felt like I have done something and there is a sense of accomplishment.
CNU: Satisfaction after a stage. As much as the anxiousness before a stage gives me butterflies in my stomach, but the latter keeps my heart in suspense.
SD: Of course I like the satisfaction after a stage, but if there isn't an anxiousness before going up the stage, then there will not be the satisfaction that comes after the performance, so I like both.
BR: I like the latter. It is all worthwhile and happy after being with the fans.
GC: The satisfaction after a stage. Standing on the stage and looking at the fans makes me very happy. When we come down from the stage after a performance, it felt like we did something with the fans. I really like those moments.

Q: Dance song vs Ballad song, which one do you like more?
JY: I think I really can't choose from this. Because I really like both, depending on situations, the music I listen to is also different.
CNU: I think there are a lot of people who will choose dance songs but I would choose ballad. As the time goes by, it might also change.
SD: I like Dance song because I think it makes me healthy, and I like the delicate energy that emerges from the song, so I like both.
BR: Dance song, It always makes me happy and uplifted.
GC: I like ballads with serious tone. Recently the weather has been good and I find myself listening to ballads often.

B1A4 Sandeul Myongji University newsletter Interview translations

B1A4/TRANSLATIONS

Sandeul who came like a breeze

Sandeul (Lee Junghwan. Musical 14) first solo album "Stay as you are" consists of stories from his younger days and also songs that makes your heart feels mushy, it is filled with the experience that he has been through. With the 5 song titles in his album as a theme, let's start with his interview.

PART 1. The road we walked together
Q: How was the first meet up with B1A4 members?
A: Through the company representative, I managed to meet the members face to face through video call. When he said "If you go to Seoul, you will be working with these kids as a team and debut together" I felt a conviction that we will do well. In the video call, the members looked the coolest among all the people I have met before (laughs) That is why I came up to Seoul and started my dorm life. Even when we were trainees, the only way for us is to do well. Now that I think of it, the expectations I had was high. Actually, even with such thoughts, I thought we would do well because the members were together.

Q: Since your debut in 2011, you are already an idol for 6 years, were there any things that were different from when you first debut?
A: When we first debut, the members will always gather together and talk. We would talk through the night and when the sun has risen, we would thought "Oh no" and go to sleep, and it isn't just on one or two occasions. We feel that meditating through talking is very important so we will talk about even the small things. Thanks to that, now 6 years has past and we are at a stage where there needs to be no words. Now the members all know what we want even when we don't say anything. I think we are slowly changing on that point.

PART 2. Home
Q: I heard you got a dog as a new family member. Talk me about your dog briefly.
A: His name is Mango and he is now 2 years old. Even though he doesn't listen to us well, he is a cute dog (laughs). Actually, Mango is no different from my little brother. My sister and I both left home and came to Seoul to live, so my parents back in Busan is very lonely. That is why I decided that instead of me, I will send them a dog to keep them accompany. Mango is my loveable little brother. Right now, he is raised by my parents who are in Busan.

Q: In your song "Home", There are a lot of messages that you wanted to convey to your family. Have you ever let your parents listen to it personally before?
A: Yes I've let them heard it. Because I wanted them to hear the song with the feelings of the lyrics, so I recorded and let them hear it, my mother asked if it is even possible for me to do that. (laughs) She is a really cold person. I guess when my mother heard it, rather than the feelings in the song, she is more worried about whether my solo album will do well or not.

Q: In that case, is Sandeul's singing skills like your parents?
A: The person who helped me when I started singing was my mother. My mother used her career in the choir as well as the knowledge she has gathered over the years to taught me singing when I was young. However, when I grew up and told them I want to learn singing, both of them objected. I guess that was because at that point of time when I want to do something, my interest don't go over a year, so they probably thought this wouldn't last more than 3 months too. My parents never thought I would go this far with singing. At that point of time they thought I would only learn it for a while but right now I have nothing except singing.

PART 3. My childhood stories
Q: Tell us about your story when you were young and first entered the university.

A: When I was 21 years old, I was able to stand on the musical stage through musical production "Brave brothers". However, the problem was because I have never stood on a musical stage before, I can only learn things one by one on the spot. Actually, I got a lot of scoldings at the start. It was something unavoidable because I don't know anything. So that was why I worked even harder. Normal musical practice timings are from 10am to 10pm. However, I will reach at 8am to clean the place, and practice and match with the seniors who came early. When the practice ends at 10, I will stay on longer to practice before heading home. Such were my days. Eventually, we ended the musically successfully, and also ended a 20 fully packed production tour, but I still feel that there is regret in my heart. So I want to learn more about musical and with the heart of wanting to stand on the musical stage, I enrolled into Myungji University.

Q: Do you remember the first meal you had when you entered the University?
A: I have to look for my lecture room when I came onto the campus, I was frustrated that I don't know where is it. Just in time, I asked the student who was walking past for directions. He was really friendly and gave me all the directions. I was really grateful and said that I will buy him lunch. Of course I have to eat with the first student I met on the campus. That was my first school meal. (laugh) I think my first school meal was really good.

Q: Because of your busy schedule, you must have not been able to enjoy the school life as much as you want. What are some of the things you want to do if you return back to school?
A: When we had the new comers welcome ceremony, I watched the musical production put up together by Myungji University Musical major students of the same year. Everyone was very good and talented. If I were to return back to school, I want to do a musical stage with my year's student.

Q: As someone who has stood on the musical stage before, give our musical major students some advice.
A: I feel that the most important thing is "Try it with your whole body." This was how I made it here. If you just sit at your desk and think about it, it will never come to pass. The stage is the same. If you only think and worry about whether I can stand on the musical stage, you will never know if you can stand on the stage or not. Live or death, try run and knock onto it personally. You live will not end even if you try it.

PART 4: Ya!
Q: This song was a special featuring of Mamamoo's Wheein. Were you originally close to Wheein?

A: Because Mamamoo sings very well, I always thought of wanting to do a stage with them. When I heard Mamamoo's song in the car, the voice that stands out the most was Wheein's voice. So through close friend Moonbyul's introduction, I asked her to be featured in my song

Q: Other than Mamamoo Moonbyul, I also heard that you are close to BTS Jin, Vixx Ken and EXID Hani, what do the 92line mostly do when you guys gather together?
A: We are unable to meet often because we are busy, but when we do we play Escape-the-room games. We also go eat delicious food or head to another person's performance. Especially when I meet up with Jin, because he likes going to the amusement parks, we will head to the amusement parks. We are all pretty playful.

Q: How do you wish for people around to remember you?
A: I hope people will remember me as "Someone who sings". There is always a fix voice colour of someone who sings isn't it? I hope I don't have a fix voice colour. I just hope to be a charming person when I sing, I feel that it is not important how you see me on usual days.

PART 5: Stay as you are
Q: As you continued doing group promotions, you were the first to start doing a solo promotion and it seems really burdened. What was the thing you worried the most before you release your album?

A: As I win on programs like Immortal songs, Duet song festivals, people have a high expectation of me. Within this expectation that the have, it is not just about re-analysing the song but now I have to put in the emotions I feel into my song and people hear it, and I was worried if they would like it. Because of that I was really worried and couldn't sleep well. I was troubled about how can I do better. Because it was my first album so I thought I was greedy for such things.

Q: As you work on your album, were there any memorable episodes?
A: Actually, I recorded this song 4 times, I recorded it once, thought over it for a few days, recorded it again, and then fixed another date to record it again and this was repeated. This song was originally half a key lower. With half a key lower, the feeling was totally different. I keep going back and forth between whether to just release the song I have recorded which half a key lower or to make it half a key higher and re-record it again. Eventually, I made up my mind to bring the song half a key higher and there was my last recording and I released it.

Q: Please introduce to us your favourite track among the five tracks in your album.
A: Even though I like the title track "Stay as you are", but my favourite track is "My Childhood stories". As I grow older, the thought that I always have is "Even as I grow old, I want to continue living like a child.". I want to treasure and keep the pure and innocent heart that a kid has for a long time so I wrote the song "My Childhood stories". It was a song that I wrote as I looked back to my memories through the eyes of a child, all the memories swelled up. So when I wrote the lyrics and first sang with the MR, I remembered I cried a lot. That was a song that was filled with my heart.

Q: You are the first male idol to be an Election Ambassador. As an Election Ambassador, tell the students something.
A: Everyone knows that 9th May is the election right? Look back at the current situation of Korea and think carefully about the direction you want Korea to go in the future. After that, look through the candidates profile carefully and choose the suitable one who will bring Korea to the direction you want, and give your precious vote. I hope you will use your authority and vote!

CNU: Let's change the sequence~! For Gongchan, even though he is youngest but he is someone we can lean on. He plays game really well and is top class among the idol world. He even teaches someone like me who doesn't know well.
JY: That?!
CNU: I mean I can lean on him even in such little stuffs (laughs). As for the points to change, Gongchan talks too little. He especially doesn't tell us the negative things. The hyungs get worried, so no matter what it is, please tell us!
GC: I can't bring myself to tell you guys because you would feel sad for me... However, I tell the manager things so don't worry!
GC: Baro hyung is always watching over us from behind, when we needs to be somewhere, he will tell us firmly and catching hold of us. The bad point would be when he is tired, he will shout out things we can't make out of. (laughs). But I will think "Looks like he is tired..." and let it be.
SD: BAROOOOOOOOO (weep)
BR: Jinyoung is the mood maker. Because we have a lot of schedules, so he will be one who is in charged of making the mood by joking around so that our mood remains up. Even though they are always not fun (laughs). The lacking point would be that he continues to joke around. There should be a time when he should stop isn't it? There are times as a receiver, I thought "It should be time you stop..." but Jinyoung just wouldn't stop! And he is still constantly losing things.
JY: Just when I was in Japan, I lose my iphone at the restaurant. I think I lost about 10 iphones already.
JY: For Sandeul, his good points would be eating a lot. His lacking point would be, he keeps eating. (laughs) I'm just joking. On the serious note, I find it amazing that he keeps running towards the goal he set. On the bad side, there are times when he ran too hard and hurt himself... I hope on this note he can be more careful.
SD: Life moves on like as if time is running out, therefore I need to do all the interesting things. Learning Japanese, fishing, golf, anything. Only when you have tried everything, then you will know which wouldn't work. (laughs)
SD: Shinwoo is the center of the team. However, he doesn't goes around show his weight like "I am the oldest!", instead, he is flexible and comes to you, and it makes people want to follow him. There are times acting for the sake of the team, he act as the evil character that no one wants to do and becomes stern. But no matter how stern he is, you can feel that he is full of love. The lacking point would probably recently he started acting cute..? (laughs) I got a shock and asked "Is there such a cute person?"
CNU: Guys get cuter when they get older.

Q: Please tell us about your new songs, You & I and Blue Moon.
JY: You & I is a song that run towards the fans, it consist of the message of wanting to run together with the fans in the days ahead. Since I made the song guide in Korean, it was hard to change it into the Japanese because we have to match the number of the syllables. Even just a bit of difference can change the feeling of the song.

CNU: As this is the first single we released since we change label, I want to input songs of various colours into it. Different from the up tempo song You & I, I wanted to make Blue Moon a ballad. The Japanese we know are all pretty strange and unfortunately, we are not able to write the lyrics of this song. (laughs)
SD: You & I is a song that we can have fun with the audiences while Blue Moon is a song where we can show in the dark and under spotlight!

Q: The reason why you guys covered Choo Choo Train?
CNU:
The songs is popular in Korea and it is a song that we like. Also, it is a song that can make us feel the bright future. I feel that it matches our emotions as we switch to a new label. Thank you for willingly letting us cover the song.
GC: We recorded the MV in a ski resort. It has been a long time since we filmed at a place with lots of show so it was fun!
BR: We shifted from a bustling city to a quiet place and because of that, it was healing for us.

Do you have any free time when you are in Japan?
JY:
We have came to Japan several times, but it is a pity that we are unable to have any free time. I want to get to know more about the Japan culture, I feel that if I know more, I will be able to communicate with the Japanese fans a little more... If I get free time in Japan, I want to go to places where the cherry blossoms bloom.
SD: I want to go Fuji-Q Highland! (It is an amusement park)
JY: I went before once, that time it rained. I took the roller coaster and went into the haunted house and that's it. And then because the haunted house staffs were all so scary I couldn't finish it till the end.
BR: I want to make friends with Japanese people. Go shopping, and he does music too, then I want to do a collab with him.
GC: This time round when we came to Japan, we all went to eat ramen together.
BR: Ramen is delicious!! Delicious!! Delicious!! Delicious~!!!
GC: A few moments ago, I said Baro will shout out loud... this is one good example. (laughs)

Jinyoung - Born on 18 Nov 1991, Blood Type A, Leader
Q: You acted in Korea's hit drama, Love in the Moonlight. How was it?
A: Up till now, the characters that I have acted in are all one-sided love, and among those, the degree of a one-sided love are all very high. I think I acted in all the one-sided love already. (laughs) Since it was in summer, wearing layers of clothes while filming was extremely tiring. The part of the hat that touches the forehead is made of metal, it is heavy and leaves a mark too.

Q: From Jinyoung who knows well about a one-sided love, please give some advices to the people who are habouring a one-sided love right now.
A: Please don't stop. If you stop, it just stops there. If you do whatever you can do, you will have no regrets. Such sincerity will work one day.

CNU - Born on 16 Jun 1991, Blood Type A
Q: You have been constantly doing musicals like Chess and The Three Musketeers.
A: A musical where I get to act as a character is different from just standing on the stage as a singer. When I stand on the stage as a musical actor, it was really fun, heart palpitating... Lots of emotions exists at the same time. Even though as time passes since debut, I have experiences of standing on the stage, I am still a rookie as a musical actor. It reminded me of the humility and innocent heart when B1A4 first debuted. There were a lot of things that we need to learn you can only do it with a humble heart. And thanks to that, we ambitious with our group activities.

Sandeul - Born on 20 Mar 1992, Blood Type A
Q: You are the first in the group to do a solo.

A: I feel that the good part of being solo would be that you get to sing the song from the first second all the way till the end, without ceasing the emotions you put in. However, no matter how it is, I feel lonely in the waiting room... because the members aren't there. I can't seem to solve my loneliness throughout my promotions. I will let the other members know that it will be extremely lonely when they do their solo activities. I also want to advise not to be too greedy. I was too greedy, practiced too much and became too lethargic. If given a chance, I want to make a song on my own, or do a cover of the the band I like, Southern all stars and do promotions in Japan.

Baro - Born on 5 Sep 1992, Blood Type B
Q: Baro has received lots of good reviews in terms of his acting, what is the role you would be acting in your recent web movie "Closed eyes"?
A:
Im acting as a musical who has problems with his eyes, there is a reason why he was not able to see. There was an emphasis that in the movie, I was hurt and I was trying to protect my heart. I tried to read the script several times to understand the character, as I rehearse with the characters in the movie several times and repeatedly, I was able to get immersed into the character.

Q: Is there any productions that received great priases from the members?
A:
God's gift. It is probably because it was the first time an idol is acting as an autism kid, the members were very interested and gave me lots of praises. I was very happy.

Gongchan - Born on 14 aug 1993, Blood Type A
Q: A mobile game with Gongchan as the main character was released.
A:
The title is "I need romance". In the game, I am an idol and at the same time a member of the indie band, so there were two different charms to the character. As a person who likes games, I am thankful that I was able to become a main character in the game. However, it was a weird feeling that I am in a relationship. (laughs) I diligently check the comments that were being uploaded onto the SNS, wonder if the fans are having fun with it, and through that I was able to enjoy the game.

B1A4/TRANSLATIONS

Q: You starting making songs because you wanted to help out the team.
A: When we were receiving vocal lessons, the teacher recorded the music and played it. I find it interesting that we can make songs using a computer program. So I unknowingly bought a laptop, downloaded the program, and started to follow. When I click the piano icon, music came out. When I click the drum icon, the beats came out, I find it very interesting and was surprised.

Q: So you self learnt.
A: That's right. Even right now, I still find it a pity that I was unable to learn piano properly when I was younger. I used the guitar to write songs a lot but we can only record the song. I would have to transfer the melody to the computer manually. As the melody would automatically transfer if it is a piano melody, it saves a lot of time.

Q: It is still not too late now.
A: People around me stopped me. Even it is good to learn piano, but the reason why my music is special is because I don't receive lessons for it. Even with that, rather than machine sounds, I like acoustic sounds a lot, and because of that, we recorded Sweet Girl with an 18 piece band. The drums, bass, brass are all real sounds.

Q: Seems like you want to achieve a lot. You are called "Tiger producer" among your members.
A: I don't like to compromise. I don't let even the members listen to an incomplete song. Even though it is not a solo song, it is a B1A4 song and I should accept their opinions totally, but if it is imcomplete, I would not want to show it to them. Our first album, I did mixing for "Baby I'm sorry" 7 times. Because it was my first so I wavered a lot. When we had "Wonderful Tonight", I wanted to make it slightly more upbeat so it is a pity. In the end we did an acoustic version of it in the next album. Now that I see it, it shouldn't have been this way.

Q: When I read articles, the feelings of a youth are also pretty different
A: I like the word "memories" a lot. I like perfumes.I get a lot of inspiration from something that gives me a very clear impression of my memory. "When the cherry blossom fades" is a song I wrote as I watch how a young person who is dreaming and hates breaking up and finds it a pity. It is a song that doesn't sound weird whether a male or a female sings it.

Q: You find contradicting music fun?
A: I like reversals. Usually from chorus onwards, I dislike something that goes like the normal, so I experiment a lot. I add sad lyrics to fast songs. I will slow down songs that seems like it will go faster.

Q: There are also times your songs sounds alike.
A: Since B1A4 will not be changing our styles with a click of the fingers, I find that it is reasonable. There are also parts where Oh My Girl and IOI songs are similar. I agree that I will need to widen my musicality. Recently, I am stuck with future bass so I am learning DJ-ing. I want to be able to take on more genres.

On the reason why he did acting too, Jinyoung replied "Music and acting are just different ways of expressing, the nature are the same." When doing music, there is melody instead of script. When acting, since there isn't melody, I would have to put in more emotions into the script. Originally, I don't have any plans on participating in the OST for Love in the Moonlight. However, as I got immersed in my character, I felt emotions that I have never felt before, so I ended up making a song. This was how "Foggy Road" sang by Ben came about.

Jinyoung also added "While filming for the show, I introduced a song writing program to Bogum and his sense in making melodies are good. If he were to release an album, I will want to give him a song as a present." He also added "In the album, even if we put in our own colours, the songs are not tiring so it is more comfortable to listen to."

Baro Viva Ensemble Interview

B1A4/TRANSLATIONS

4 people 4 different colours, multi entertainer
Q: It is fresh to have the collaboration of the 4 of you~

Jung Taewoo: Because of the drama, all 4 of us met for the first time. It was really nice and an honour.
Younha: Senior Jung Taewoo is in his 30th year debut, we should be the one feeling honoured.
Baro: Maybe because we have met on one of the kids variety program before so I don't feel unfamiliar. The kids were also very pretty.
Jung Taewoo: Recently, rather than me, the kids are more popular (laughs)
Jung Seonkyung: As you can see, this team is very cheerful. I get a lot of youthful energy from this team. (laughs)

Q: It is the 9th times Jung Seonkyung participated in this. It seems like you felt a new set of emotions.
Jung Seonkyung: It is already that long? Even time when I film I feel excited. This year's filming was fun as well.
Jung Taewoo: Wa, 9th times? (hinting that this drama is done every year) I never knew. Why is it that you only call me now?
Everyone: (Laughs)

Q: I am curious how did everyone else joined this production?
Younha: Senior Jung Seonkyung gave me the proposal. She also told me the purpose of this drama, especially because there is music element in this production and it suits me so she asked me to do it. After reading the script book, i was even more set to do it.
Jung Seonkyung: I do even casting now (laughs). If I go on like this, it would be fine it I become an honorary ambassador for viva ensemble isn't it?

Q: There are lots of praises on your acting for you two singers.
Younha:
Thank you for watching me well. It has been a long time since my last acting in The Suicide forest in 2011, so I was feeling very worried. but because the staffs around us made us comfortable so we were able to work hard and have fun.
Baro: I once acted as an autism kid a few years ago. On the basis of that, I researched more and get immersed in the role. Even though Sunwoo (his character's name) is suffering from autism, there are also points that he is similar with me in my daily life, so I don't feel distanced at all.

Q: The other B1A4 members are also trying out acting so there seems to be some competition.
Baro:
For Jinyoung, he acted in Love in the Moonlight, he also shot a movie and other members are also taking part in musicals. Rather than competing against each other, we cheer for each other more. Everyone's character and personality is different so there is nothing to compare about. (laughs)

Want to break the stereotype of the handicapped people.
Q: I am curious if you like the character that you are acting.
Jung Seonkyung: This year, my character is something different. It seems that I got upgraded? I usually act as the parents of the handicapped kid or the teacher, this year sharp and forward speaking music critique. I like new things.
Jung Taewoo: It is the first time in my 30 years of acting I acted as a conductor. On top of that, I am actually someone who can't follow beats. When we were practicing, it was really hard, thanks to this I think I managed to get some sense of beats. I want to thank the person who gave me this chance to act as this.(laughs)

Q: If there was something that we felt while acting as a conductor, what would it be?
Jung Taewoo:
The autism kids in the show were all actors so there weren't much difficulty, however, in real life, how hard would it be for the conductor. Just handling one autism kid alone is hard enough but he has to get all the kids to do a performance together, this isn't something normal people can do. He has to understand the kids' mind.
In the script, there's this part that goes "A guardian and a conductor are the same" and I am moved by it. As someone who has married and have two kids, I carried the thought that "a guardian is no less important than a conductor when it comes to the kids" and got immersed in the character.

Q: Younha also appeared in the drama as a singer-songwriter~
Younha:
In the show, there was a scene where I wanted to get the kids to focus and started singing while playing the piano. Rather than a song that already exist, I thought a newly made song would be better so I did it, I wrote the song myself. As it is a song that I work hard composing, please give a lot of lot to it.
Baro: It is a song that you can only hear in the drama. It is really good (thumbs up) Like how when we hear the song in movie "Take off" (국가대표) and gets reminded of the movie, I hope that this song can be a representation song that will remind others about these kids.

Q: Baro acted as a viola player in the show~
Baro:
Actually, I have no idea how to play one at all. Just like how lipsync are, I am only handsyncing. It is really hard to make a sound out of it. However, in order for my actions to look as real as it is, I am still receiving lessons right now and practicing hard. I heard that in the real viva ensemble, there are kids who have hurts in their body too, but they are still able to pull off such amazing performance so I am really surprised and respect them.
Jung Taewoo: I also agree. In order to understand my character, I went to catch the perforance "Bbokko-ah Bbokko", it was a performance by the challenged kids and I was very moved.

I hope to communicate to everyone the heart-warming feelings we felt.
Q: If there was something special which you wish to communicate to everyone through the drama?
Baro:
Just like the character that I acted as, autism kids are more innocent than we think they are. In order to communicate such innocents, I will work hard. Later when the kids who watched this show has people around them who are challenged, I hope that they will not see them with a stereotype.
Jung Taewoo: In Korea, there seems to be not enough consideration for the challenged in terms of facilities and hearts. I hope that there will be more system where students who have handicaps can have dreams and hopes. I hope that there will be such drama or performance like "Bbokko-ah Bbokko" that will benefit them.

Q: Any last words:
Younha:
I am thankful that I am able participate in such a good production. Since it is a one-act play, we need to spread through word of mouth so that more people can come to know about this. We filmed this with hard work and I hope that many will watch it and will give unreserved support for it.
Baro: Many staffs and actors including myself worked hard in order to satisfy everyone. It is a drama with a good purpose so I hope that many will spread it and having fun watching it.
Jung Taewoo: Maybe because the intention of the drama is heart warming, so everyone from the staffs to the actors were all very caring. I hope that after it is broadcasted, we will be able communicate the warm heartedness and the same thoughts of caring for the handicapped.
Jung Seonkyung: Thank you for giving us a lot of love this year too. We filmed this with hard work and fun till the end, please watch over us.
