Q: What will you be doing this upcoming Christmas?
CNU: We have a schedule. We have a fansign and Vapp broadcast.

Q: If you don't have schedule, what would you like to do on Christmas?

Jinyoung: Nothing much, I just want to walk on the streets of Myeongdong while it is snowing.

Sandeul: I want to go diving. (laughs) Going to a place where there is nothing and me being alone doesn't seems too bad. I watch the drama "Entourage" and Seo Kang Jun will go diving whenever he don't feel good. It seems cool...

CNU: The best drama recently is Goblin isn't it. Even though I don't really watch drama but I saw a few episodes. It is very interesting. Coincidentally, I saw an episode and ended up continuing it. I even subscribed to watch it again on the internet.

Q: When there's no schedule on Christmas, you like to watch drama?

CNU: Nope. Actually, I like to go for a drive so I want to go for one. But it seems like a hard thing to do.

Jinyoung: It seems like every year Christmas we have schedules.

Sandeul: Think of that as a good thing.

Jinyoung: Even though its a good thing, I thought its a pity.

CNU: Still, its been a while since we are in Korea this year. Last year and the year before we spent it in Japan.

Sandeul: Since its been a while we spent Christmas in Korea, I think we can spend it with a different feeling.

Q: B1A4 members did various activities this year. Looking back at 2016, how was it?

Jinyoung: It was eventful. We experienced a lot of things. A year where the members all did various things and grow their capabilities. 2016 was a year where we look forward to 2017.

Q: What would 2017 be like for B1A4?

Jinyoung: Safe. No mishap, I hope it can be a happy year. "Happy" would include everything. Being healthy, being successful in our work too. With that, I hope that B1A4 will have a happy year.

Q: Is there anything that you do to be happy when things don't go very well?

Jinyoung: There are times when I watch movie, I also sometimes sing upbeat songs. My style is to forget the bad things.

CNU: For me, I do nothing. I am those kind who don't think and shouldn't think in order not to get stressed. I try my best to just be still.

Sandeul: Recently I met up with my Busan friends. We thought back about our past together. It felt really good to laugh and play when we were young and have nothing. Thinking about my past made me released my stress. I prefer moving around when I get stressed out.

Q: If there is something that you want to tell your fans this year end, what would it be?

Jinyoung: I recommend that you spend your year end with your family this year. Most people would think of spending time with friends. However, this year on the last year, how about making some precious memories with your family? I thought it would be good to be spending it with your family this time.

Q: It seems hard for you to spend time with your family for year end.

Jinyoung: The year end is always the busiest. It has been a while since we always spend crossing over to the next year in MBC.

CNU: I think its been 7-8 years since we have been counting down on MBC.

Sandeul: Its a little regretful that we can't be with the family for the new year. Its been a while the last memory. So I kept thinking about it. I remembered going to Busan Yongdusan together with family.

Q: It's a little early but what is your new year resolution?

Sandeul: Firstly, I hope to be able to go through the year healthily. And I want to work hard and practice so that my songs can be in the next album. I will start with being a small producer and then overtake Jinyoung and CNU hyung. (laugh) I will lead the team in the future.

CNU: I believe in Sandeul thoughts. Its a mature sensibility. Sandeul's solo album this time included his self written self composed song, I feel that it is feel of emotions and a good song to listen to no matter when. Even though Jinyoung is our team's main producer, I thought that as I write songs, the spectrum of B1A4's colour expanded. So I thought if we add in Sandeul's, wouldn't our colours expand even more.

Sandeul: Let's wait and see.

CNU: I think he will write songs that all age group will like, songs that even the older people will like.

Sandeul: There might even be a totally new genre. Something like EDM Trot. No matter what kind of songs, I should try composing it first. While I am writing for this album, I have a lot of emotions. Before we decided on the songs I listened to hyungs music. Jinyoung's songs are started like a tunnel but CNU's songs seems to changed the tunnel, the feeling is good. It feels so good that I want to join in too. I want to make a music like the tunnel's emergency exit.

Jinyoung: I think that it is good. Members are hungry in terms of music, and want to participate in the album.

Sandeul: Our hyungs are really cool.

CNU: I think it would be cool to include all of the members self composed songs in a mini album.

Even though B1A4 seems quite, they are not quiet, it seems like they are showing us their images once in a while but they are a diligent group constantly having activities. Next year they are in their 7th year since debut and they are displaying good dynamics acknowledged by others.

Debuting from WM Entertainment in 2011, even though B1A4 isn't a rookie group who came like a comet, but they started and succeeded with a nick name "Elementary school president". They received rookie award and also got their first 1st place after 2 years of debut with hit song "What's happening".

The song "What's happening" which got 1st place what their 4th mini album, and B1A4 has been releasing 2 albums per year since debut. Also, they have their own reality and own concert into their 2nd year. After releasing their first full length album, they also debuted in Japan. Putting "hit the iron while its hot" into practical use.

After that, they ride on their rising popularity, they bounced higher and released their 2nd full length album, and started their world tour from Taiwan, USA, Japan, Australia, Southeast Asia etc.

As the team gets stabilized, the members also started their solo activities. Jinyoung was born again as an actor through Mnet Music drama "Perseverance Goo Haera, MBC Warm and Cozy, and recent KBS2 Love in the Moonlight. He also displayed his song writing skills as he participated in Produce 101's In the same place, IOI's Wait, When the cherry blossoms fade, Oh my girl's One step two step and so on.

Sandeul as expected went towards the public through music. He showed the public the singing skills that they did not know of on MBC King of Masked Singer, he also showed his individuality as a solo singer with his solo album "Stay this way".

CNU got casted as Chess' main actor. Baro acted in MBC Angry Mom, he also did varieties like SBS Laws of the jungle, tvN's Youth over flowers. Gongchan was the MC for KBS2 A song for you.

In such a short time, all 5 members were able to show their talents in the areas where they do good at. Of course, compared to the past, they took a longer period (for comeback), but unexpectedly, B1A4 grew as they did their activities together and separately. As much as they took a long time to make a come back, they also released a high quality album.

Since 2012, B1A4 has been promoting using songs their write on their own. In 2014, their 2 full length album Who am I consisted of 8 self written songs out of the 12 songs, the number increasing sharply. Their latest album Good Timing, they provided us with 13 out of 13 self written tracks.

CNU revealed during Good Timing showcase, "It has always been a dream to have a full length album with all self written and composed songs. I feel like we fulfilled that dream and grew a lot, and think that it is a step into somewhere where we can growing more." 

It is not a common thing to see idols releasing an album with all self written tracks. Towards the end of their 6th debut year, B1A4 continue to grow and is becoming a respectable idol.

What's even more surprising is that B1A4 has not had one scandal. The members promoted with a stain on their name and has firm teamwork. B1A4 also visit one another as the promote individually, cheering on each other sincerely.

Jinyoung said in the interview once that his heart still flutters when he sees the members occasionally, showing the affections he has for the members. On Good Timing showcase with regards to the 7 year jinx, he mentioned that "there are still a lot of things that we are curious about each other, there are also lots of things to talk about" CNU also said "We are fans of each other".

Like this, even if B1A4's proper and acknowledged activities doesn't gather great interest from the public, it is still possible that they will go a long way.

One person in the entertainment industry said "As idols promote longer, they tend to sway more to solo activities, B1A4 does well in acting, variety, song writing and so on, so we look forward to them".

He also added "When B1A4 first debuted, their concept was innocent and cheerful. It is similar to SHINee, as they show their mature image, they are also looking to develop. B1A4 is like SHINee, they maintained their charms and create their own growing up stories, so I thought the possibility of them becoming a long lasting group is high."

Actually, while preparing for this album, we had solo activities too so it was hard. We showed a growth from the previous album and as the eldest I feel proud. As we have worked hard, I believe that our happiness is coming.

In a dream. If you listen to the lyrics of the song, it is talking about a sad story of a person but when the melody of the song and the lyrics meet, it becomes a very healing song so I want to recommend this song.

We shot our MV at Jeju Island this time round, I dieted but inhaled black pork BBQ, so the diet became useless and went down the drain, there was such a sad story...

1. Listen to my thoughts on ending my solo activties

It was a promotion that I can learn a lot. It is my first time taking on a solo promotion and be it pacing myself or the way to sing, I pondered very hard over them. At first I was familiar with it, but towards the end I am sure about things. Things like "This isn't it", "I don't have to think of this and that for my voice tone", "I need to rest too", "Working too hard isn't the answer.", I felt all these with my body. My body will remember these and I think I can look forward to the next album. In the future, I will show you a Sandeul that is constantly growing, please anticipate and cheer for me! Thank you for giving love to "Stay as you are" all these while~ I love you! Bana!

2. What is your goal for the album this time round?

My goal is to let as many people as possible hear my music.

3. How much would you rate the promotions this time round, 100 points being the highest, and please let us know the reason.

I don't think I am perfect at this point. If I were to give points, it would be 65 points. It's my first solo album and there were lots of expectations, and I think because there were lots of stressed, so there were lots of mistakes made. However, due to such experiences, there are a lot of points which I can learn from, so I would like to give it a 65 points. I feel that the remaining points are for me to fill up in the future. I think of it as only the start.

4. Is there a most memorable moment during your promotional period?

The last music show was the most memorable one. Actually, there are stages that I feel regretful about. However, to be able to show perfectly on stage what I have prepared as my last stage, it was a happy moment.

In the beginning, Yoonseong is a character that is hard to grasp. Generally, he doesn't have any desires in life and is very dull. Politically, he is in a complicated position. His grandfather wishes to make him in a king but Yoonseong doesn't wish to be a king. He feels sorry towards Lee young, who used to be a friend, because of that. He really doesn't have any feelings for his political position.

There are a lot of things that make Yoonseong a complicated person but his one-sided love in the drama and the relationship with Hong Raon is unexpectedly a lighter one. 

"Yoonseong who has no desires in life met Raon and his life changed. Raon gave Yoonseong the reason to live on in life. Because of that, his affections for Raon grew, in the later part, he gave his all for Raon, in the end, he gave even his life away. I thought of Yoonseong as someone who is for Raon from the start till the end."

Jinyoung is now acknowledged as an actor. Not just within his fans but the public too. There are not many singers who can be called a actor by the public, but Jinyoung made a name for himself through drama Love in the Moonlight as Kim Yoonseong.

The most surprising thing about Jinyoung stepping into the acting world one by one is him distinguishing himself in the music world too. Since a long time ago he is more known for his name as B1A4 member, producing their songs. Jinyoung expresses B1A4 having an existence of a home.

"As I am by myself acting, no matter what, there are times where I will feel lonely, even if I meet my members for just a while, it is fun. The members will copy and follow my scripts but I know that they are joking and am thankful that at the same time. Because they are paying lots of attention to my acting isn't it. They post the scenes that I appear on onto SNS, take a picture of the TV. (laughs) Also, when Love in the Moonlight is being broadcasted, while my name rises in the search ranking, B1A4 also rises in the search ranking too. I feel proud that I am of help to my team as I carry the name of my group out to work. 

Since debut, Jinyoung has been writing his own songs for B1A4, his first title song was in B1A4's first full length album "Ignition" named Baby I'm sorry. He also wrote a song, One step two step, for his company's junior, Oh My Girl. The song he wrote for Mnet Produce 101 stood strong on the charts.

Also, he met IOI one more time for recording as he gift them a new song, Hold on, for their last album. When asked to compare the members before and after Produce 101, who grew the most, Jinyoung answered "Everyone grew..." then pausing a while, finally answering "Kim Sohye".

"Sohye really grew a lot. Between the time since I last saw her, her singing ability grew so well, the moment I heard it, I clapped for her. Not just Sohye, but even members who were unskilled before are now are doing well like pros."

When asked about Choi Yoojung who fell back startled when came face to face with him, Jinyoung replied "Choi Yoojung is someone with a lot of charms. I think I kind of know why the fans like her. She is smart and knows how to show her own charms."

Jinyoung is very into his work. When asked about what is his hobby, he says he spends most of his resting time writing songs. He also added he likes movies and perfumes.

"I don't really like romance but when I watched 'A Moment to remember' I cried a lot. From then on, I started liking romance movie a lot."

So in that case, do we get to see Jinyoung on screen as well? "Through Love in the Moonlight, I gained courage. At the set, I learned and experience a lot of stuffs, I thought it gave me a lot of courage and strength for my future stuffs. If there is a chance, I want to try a war movie, a romance comedy." (laughs)

Zenith interview ①

Since there are a lot of peer actors around, the atmosphere in the set is really good. We started with a very heated summer and ended filming with the cold air blowing on us. Even with that, because of the great staffs and actors, the filming was fun. 

"We were originally close. Once we start laughing, it is hard to stop. There was once when we were talking, even though I can't remember what was it, just one word made everyone burst out laughing. The next scene was an emotional scene but everyone just couldn't stop laughing. That was why there was once we got scolded by the director too. When I am with the peer actors, we get along well and chat a lot. Just being together makes everything fun."

On being good at both acting and music, Jinyoung said "Rather than the burdens, I find it more like an aspiration. There was lots of praises, I thought I should work harder and better. I like challenges. Whether or not I will do well, I will try and see. I also thought I should seriously try out acting and see too." (laughs)

Zenith interview ②

Q: I think you feel proud that IOI is doing well.

A: I feel great. I thought they have to do well. I know that they work hard, and they are kids who do well. It was good that my song is included. It's their last album and I want to give IOI a meaningful song, even if my song is the the title track. The fans said a lot of tears jerking words. As I look at that, I feel proud. I put myself in the fan's shoes and wrote the lyrics.

Q: You often write a lot of emotional songs. Where do you get your inspiration from?

A: I like songs that creates an impression in your heart. Rather than songs that gets you addiction, I want songs that will leave an impression. Songs that makes you go "I want to listen to it again". That is the style of my music. I try to develop songs that can make people relate to as much as possible. So I put in my own feelings, I also listen to many stories of the people around me. I also go around asking them deliberately. There is no way that everyone can related just based on my own feelings.

Q: Do you have thoughts of wanting to be in love?

A: There are times when I want to, of course. However, there are a lot of things that I need to do now. It is not the time to think about this now. I think it is right to think that I want to do the things that I want to do soon.

Q: How is your preparation for comeback?

A: We have been preparing in our spare time. I kept thinking what should we do. We are preparing to comeback within this year. We are continuously having meetings. Since we have been doing it, it will probably be my written song too. I am planning to have a new feel.

Q: I am curious about your future plans.

A: Currently, releasing a B1A4 album is now the most important thing. Of course, if a chance come, I will want to do a good drama again. I also have desires for variety. I don't really have personal skills. I used to mimic helicopter sounds but fans says its not good and ask me to stop doing it. (laugh) I still have no idea what else to do. If I appear bit by bit, I think I will get used to it.

Q: Your goals as singer Jinyoung?

A: Be it actor or singer, I hope I can be someone who will be anticipated. I want people to think "His songs this time round will be good too right?". Same goes for acting. I want to be an actor that gives people a sense of security. I want to live without regrets. Even though it is hard to do it, I will try hard to work on it. Thinking more, and do it more perfectly and with no regrets is my goal.
